The presenter says his experience working as a black person in the TV industry left him with depression.

"I have been given amazing opportunities, but I've also been patronised and marginalised," he said in his MacTaggart Lecture. "I've been in high demand, but I've also been on the scrap heap. I've felt inspired, and convinced that our job - making TV and telling stories - is the best job in the world."But at other times I've been so crushed by my experiences, so isolated and disempowered by the culture that exists within our industry, that I have had to seek medical treatment for clinical depression.

"I am one of the last men standing of TV's lost generation," said Olusoga, who has also contributed to The One Show and The Guardian. The Film and TV Charity recently reported to the government that 73% of BAME production talent had considering leaving the TV industry. "As we were filming in a remote location we set up our own catering and on the first day cast crew and extras queued up for lunch. But without informing me it had been decided that the actors and the crew were to eat first, the extras would get their lunch afterwards. Standard procedure perhaps, but the unintentional effect was that white people ate first and black people only after they had finished.

Well we have turned off you programs, they were not very good. The US is keen on all the wokeness, and you would probably earn more money

DavidOlusoga programmes are the most humbling & informative (at times gut wrenching) I've watched in a long time... his books are on my wishlist...waiting for Series two of 'A house through time' to rerun (missed that one). An absolute natural presenter.

The BBC, and others, should learn the lesson from a very dear friend of mine who is blind. She hears what people are, and listens to what they have to say. If she likes someone, it's not based on their colour, just their personality and what they offer.

Always the victim

And the BBC leave people's pride in Britain crushed. DefundTheBBC

He attacked Sir Winston Churchill as a racist. BBC's obsession with diversity has harmed it in the eyes of the majority population. BBC does not reflect Britain outside its woke London Bubble. DefundtheBBC ! It has become an anti-British institution since the BREXIT vote.

BBC is over-represented by minority groups both in-front of and behind the cameras. If David finds the arts and film sector particularly challenging for BAME people then it must be near impossible for those working more mundane jobs. Or not 🙄

One of my fav shows on TV, David Olusoga presents history of places/houses.

Tv and is an insidious environment

‘'I have been given amazing opportunities, but I've also been patronised and marginalised' Not forgetting the OBE.

Keep on stirring keep on stirring bbc

Who is this?

Some of us also feel crushed on the minimum wage with the near certainty of being made redundant

Who is he?

Another whiny Marxist playing victim
