The Government has been accused of 'waving the white flag' to investment funds by the leader of Sinn Féin, following the announcement last night of a proposal to introduce a higher rate of stamp duty on multiple house purchases

The Government has been accused of "waving the white flag" to investment funds by the leader of Sinn Féin, following the announcement last night of a proposal to introduce a higher rate of stamp duty on multiple house purchases.

She told the Dáíl that investment funds breathed a sigh of relief last night and said the measures will not reduce rents, house prices, nor will they stop funds buying up family homes. Taoiseach Micheál Martin accused Sinn Féin of exploiting the housing crisis for its own political gain and said the proposals would give the advantage back to first-time buyers.

He told the Dáil that the new 10% rate "will not act as a disincentive" to such funds to buying-up homes, and the measures will not apply to apartments "where most cuckoo are active anyway." The Taoiseach argued that the "fundamental issue" is a question of supply, and he that that People Before Profit's policies would reduce supply and worsen the problem.

"The first step in allowing rent to become more affordable in the future, and allow for more apartments for people who want to live in them, is for the apartments to be actually built," he said. There is concern within Government, with senior sources confirming to RTÉ News that Green Party ministers are worried apartments will be unaffordable for those who want to live in major urban areas.

I'd say it's more exploiting your failings in dealing with the housing crisis

He does realize he is a politician ?

Change the record mehole it's boring now

Thats all Sinn fein do is point score

Joke of a politician, his own party had a hand in creating, maintaining, and failing to solve the housing crisis. Yet he blames other parties for calling him out on this, the sooner the better FF are consigned to the dustbin of history, a truly awful party.

This poor excuse for a politician thinks that everyone in the country is on the same obscene salary that he is .... why else would he think that first time buyers will be in a better position than before

You’ve lost your power when you blame those who never had it!

Correction: Government incompetence and inaction is handing Sinn Fein an easy victory.

As opposed to government parties who create housing crisis for the own personal financial gain.

what an absolutely pathetic response. So SF should have just sat back and not mentioned this at let this go unchallenged but because they have highlighted this they are doing it for political gain. It needs to be highlighted and exposed and it doesn't matter if its for gain.

Fucking Sinn Fein, trying to convince people to vote for them by actually supporting their needs. Should be illegal.

You'd never find FF playing politics with policy.....nope.

🤣🤣🤣 I was wondering when ye'd try and spin decades of malicious policy by FF/FG as Sinn Fein's fault.

How dare a political party advance themselves politically by suggesting a different political approach to a political problem?! What is this? Politics?
