“There is a new militancy out there.” Frustration remains among some workers who have been required to work long hours through the pandemic while companies reap big profits from a rebounding economy, union officials and labor researchers said.

Union officials said workers are motivated by lingering frustration over their hours, pay and concerns for their health as some have held front-line jobs through the Covid-19 pandemic. Employees this year have pushed for higher wages, expanded benefits, safer workplaces and added staffing.— James P. Hoffa, Teamsters president

“Businesses and unions should be working together to get the economy back on track,” said Kristen Swearingen, chairwoman of the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace, an organization of industry groups including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Work stoppages could wind up costing jobs and hurting small businesses, the coalition said.was asked by analysts about concerns over strikes.

Labor leaders said now is a time to build their ranks due to worker shortages, the pandemic struggles and because a pro-labor president is in the White House. Rob Hill, vice president and organizing director of the Service Employees International Union 32BJ, which represents janitors and airport workers, said he expects the roughly 175,000-member union this year to sign up double the number of new members than it did in 2020, which was around 4,000.

Lol, such drama! This has been a cycle in Employer/Employee relations in all 63 years of my life. The media makes everything the end of the world nowadays🙄 Resentment of cowardly white collar workers preaching down to us while they hide behind their laptops gettin paid or come out with no mask while insisting those that serve them wear a mask. Why is striking considered ‘militancy’ ?
