Stride raises $47 million from investors including Mastercard and Allstate to expand its gig worker benefits business

Stride has grown to 2.7 million users amid the country's explosion of gig workers.

The service works essentially as an online benefits portal for gig workers, where they can shop for health care plans, log expenses and track their earnings to find tax credits and savings. The company has grown along with the popularity of gig work; Stride says it now has 2.7 million users. Lang says the rate of gig workers getting health care is improving. Stride's data show three times as many workers are signing up for health care than last year. But he argues that's still not enough. A Stride study found that a third of gig workers reported not having health insurance, with the vast majority saying they believed it was too expensive.
