Grade R learners are seen at their newly built Everest Primary School in Westbury, Johannesburg.

Department spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, says last-minute placements remain their biggest challenge at the start of the school year.

Wow! So children must stay at home the whole year. This government is failing us.

I applied all 5 schools within 5km radius. Nothing. All schools said they don't have space. My kid is travelling 22km to go to Soshanguve while they're kids coming from Soshannguve to my neighborhood. Explain?
