As she celebrates 21 years in business this year, interior and fashion designer Helen McAlinden tells us about the power of buying less by buying better

Helen McAlinden is as understated about her success as her style. Firmly established as one of the country’s leading interior and fashion designers, Helen believes her dyslexia may have helped her along the way with creativity. The Belfast native, who lives in Dublin, is celebrating 21 years at the top this year, having survived the pandemic and recession.We’re not into fast fashion. We are all about elegance, simplicity, sustainability and good design.

The Irish Government, for good reason, has been obsessed with tech and pharmaceuticals, however it hasn’t given a huge amount of support to people involved in consumer businesses. Our online presence grew during Covid, but we were up and running before 2020. Covid definitely dragged us into the 21st century in terms of social media, and we realised that we had to be on Instagram and Facebook for marketing. If people know the brand and sizing, it makes online shopping easier.
