PETALING JAYA: Premises owners cannot be held liable if high-risk individuals are inevitably found at their place, say business associations.

The onus of self-regulation lies with individuals, according to the associations in a joint statement after the government announced that MySejahtera check-ins will no longer be mandatory from Sunday .The statement was jointly signed by the Asean Retailers & Franchise Federation , Bumiputra Retailers Organisation , Federation of Malaysia Business Associations , Malaysia Retail Chain Association , Malaysia Retailers Association and Malaysia Shopping Malls Association.

“We fully support the need for individuals to self-regulate in order to create a safe environment for everyone and the community at large. “We are thankful and appreciate the minister’s understanding and rationale when it comes to enforcement. On that note, it called on members of the public to extend their cooperation when they are requested by premises owners to show their MySejahtera status for the mutual benefit and safety of the community.
