Tai pledged to "focus on how important this process is and how important it is for us to hear from all of our stakeholders across the economy."that it will conduct a statutory four-year review of the initial "Section 301" tariffs it imposed on Chinese imports in 2018 when the Trump administration had a dispute with Beijing over China's intellectual property and technology transfer practices.

Asked whether she views the tariffs as important leverage to hold China to commitments including a "Phase 1" trade deal negotiated by the Trump administration in early 2020, Tai said she was focused on the longer term.
