The rape of eight women at a mine dump in Krugersdorp on Gauteng’s West rand last week has once against shined the spotlight on the increasing incidents of gender-based violence in the country.

Gauteng for instance, which is the smallest and yet densely populated province, had a total of 143 police stations servicing a population of almost 16 million people. Moleko says in the police stations they visited there were no resources to do programmes to prevent violent crimes.
