Oak Park police is investigating after a 26-year-old Chicago man was shot and wounded when he came out of a local business in the village Friday.
Authorities said in a news release that the shooting happened near Madison Street and East Avenue. The unidentified man was shot in the leg and the building of a business where the shooting allegedly occurred was hit by bullets.“The preliminary investigation indicates this was a targeted incident,” police said in the release.
According to the release, officers responded around 1:10 p.m. to reports of multiple shots fired. When they arrived on the scene, emergency responders discovered the man had sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his leg. He was transported to Loyola Hospital in neighboring Maywood, where he was listed in stable condition.Police said in the release that, according to witnesses, the offenders exited a dark SUV shortly after the man exited a local business.
Police said there were no other injuries, but one nearby business sustained damage after being struck by gunfire. The investigation is ongoing.
