A dyslexic UK worker dismissed for spelling mistakes gets a R1.16 million award

Rita Jandu was awarded £53,855 last week after she successfully claimed disability discrimination and unfair dismissal against her former employer, the UK retailer Marks & Spencer.

Staff were rated on various criteria to determine who should lose their jobs. According to the company's notes, Jandu's ranking was"totally marginal" and would have kept her job had she scored just one more point. At a meeting in September 2020, a manager told Jandu:"Sometimes communications appear rushed and not thought through."
