After nine years in Los Angeles, Turner was recruited to Boston with help from former teammate Kiké Hernandez. He expects to see more time at first base and DH in 2023.

Justin Turner’s introductory Zoom interview as a member of the Boston Red Sox on Friday included one slip of the tongue: a “you guys” in reference to Boston’s 2021 run to the American League Championship Series. It was an understandable gaffe. Turner has spent the last nine seasons with the Dodgers, a memorable ride that included nine playoff appearances, a World Series title, and a bond with his hometown team that seemed invincible.

“He’s a really, really good friend of mine,” Turner said of Hernandez. “Talked to him a lot about everything, not just baseball. To say he wasn’t a really big part of this would be a lie.”“His path and his career are one of my biggest inspirations!” Hernandez said. The Dodgers were one of four teams that made a formal contract offer, Turner said. He expected to receive a fifth offer days after he chose to sign with the Red Sox.
