Catalan club boss Xavi Hernandez was said to be looking to negotiate a swap deal with the team from the Spanish capital in which Carrasco would make his way to Catalonia and Dutchman Memphis Depay would go in the other direction. It is believed that Barca originally wanted to bring Carrasco in during this window but were unable to convince Atletico to let him go as the Madrid giants did not want to weaken their squad in the midst of an erratic season.
