Alberta cracking down on oil companies owing millions in municipal taxes

“That is why we’re putting in place this ministerial order — to continue building on our recent work. Paul McLauchlin, president Rural Municipalities of Alberta, said the government is “addressing the future.”He said the new order should make $110 million of the back taxes recoverable and should make an accumulation of unpaid levies a thing of the past. The Liability Management Incentive Program would make $100 million available for companies to credit againstfor cleaning up such sites, though the NDP says that could ultimately balloon to $20 billion.
