The union representing longshoremen has given some assurances to the cruise ship industry it will be spared as a strike looms

A contract impasse between B.C.’s longshoremen and their employer could have widespread ramifications not only for the province but for Vancouver Island.Cruise ship tie-up, passenger gangplanks, and taking baggage and supplies on and off the big boats is the work of longshoremen.leading to concern from B.C.’s Premier about the potential, far-reaching impacts of a strike.

“It’s looking more positive than it would’ve 24 hours ago,” said Robert Lewis-Manning, CEO of the Greater Victoria Habour Authority. “This union services all ports in British Columbia so the importance of finding an agreement is high.
