INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Benjamin 'Benhur' Abalos Jr. met with market administrators on Saturday to discuss the implementation of Executive Order (EO) 39 issued by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that puts a cap on the price of rice in the country.

In a press briefing following his meeting with market administrators, Secretary Abalos said an information drive will be launched targeting all public and private markets throughout the country about EO 39.He said the Department of the Interior and Local Government is mandated to help, along with other government agencies, in the full implementation of EO 39.Under EO 39, the per-kilogram price cap for regular milled rice is P41 and P45 for well-milled rice.

The cap will be in force until it is lifted by the President upon the recommendation of the Price Coordinating Council, or the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Trade and Industry .Abalos said the EO was issued precisely because of widespread price manipulation and hoarding by some individuals.'Galit na galit ang ating presidente sa mga ganitong mga ilegal na gawain ng ilang mga tao ,' Abalos said.
