Senators grilled PwC Australia chief executive Kevin Burrows this morning before saying they were “astonished” at evidence from predecessor Luke Sayers. Here’s how the day unfolded.

Former PwC chief executive Luke Sayers has finished giving evidence to the Senate’s inquiry into the tax leaks scandal, which probed his leadership of the firm, dealings with the ATO, and accountability. That brings our live coverage to an end. My colleague Edmund Tadros will bring you all the news, including from witnesses appearing before the committee this afternoon, later in the day.

The government ultimately aborted the project.He sought advice from the ATO about who should succeed him running PwC. The ATO declined to provide it. When he was the CEO, Sayers considered splitting up PwC Australia, in part because he was concerned about conflicts of interest.PwC Australia’s values were exported to the global firm, prompting Greens Senator Barbara Pocock to declare she was “astonished”.
