Shares of AGNC Investment fell on Monday after the company warned the value of its portfolio was dropping.

The stock fell 10% to $7.32 in after-hours trading, and declined 1.1% at Monday's close. Shares are down 22% this year. The Bethesda, Md.-based real-estate investment trust said that because of market volatility, its portfolio had an estimated tangible net book value per share of $6.80 to $7 as of Oct. 20.

AGNC said tangible net book value was $8.08 a share as of Sept. 30, according to preliminary third-quarter results, down from $9.09 a share a year ago. Analysts polled by FactSet expected a tangible net book value of $9.22 a share. Third-quarter total comprehensive loss was estimated to be $1.02 a share, compared with $2.01 in the year-ago quarter.
