Matrix Providers specializes in recruiting and placing health care professionals across the nation's military bases.11:15 AM MDT May 27, 2024Getting a medical staffing company prepared to compete for $43 billion worth of work will be a"bit of a crystal ball exercise," says Bill Rivard.

Rivard is CEO and founder of Matrix Providers, which specializes in recruiting and placing health care professionals across the nation's military bases. Denver-based Matrix on Thursday joined 10 other companies selected to fill a $43 billion contract to recruit thousands of health care workers for the national network of Army, Navy, and Air Force bases over the next 15 years.

It's the federal government's largest health care staffing contract yet, enlarged in part to respond to the national health care staffing shortage, said Rivard, an optometrist who spent 21 years on active duty with the Army and seven with the reserves. The constraints of the national staffing shortfall, coupled with the fact that health care jobs serving the military look a bit different, means that Rivard has his work cut out for him.
