Two weeks later, security industry regulator confirms Libyan military camp operated illegally

The findings were made by Psira director Manabela Chauke who briefed the media that the training by Milites Dei Security Services in Mpumalanga, White River was more than just a security training facility.

Chauke said their investigations also uncovered instructors who are not accredited by the authority at the facility. He said the trainers used military ranks which further reaffirmed the nature of training that was being conducted at the training facility. Chauke said there was also a contravention of the immigration law of South Africa by both the owners and the Libyan learners and that the facility had not applied for authorisation, agreements and or exemptions granted to MDSS by the National Regulator for Conventional Arms Control to provide training or military training to Libyans nationals.Psira is responsible for regulating the private security industry to ensure that it contributes positively to our national security.
