A poll of 1,000 adults who have travelled for work found they spend most of their time simply frittering away the hours, with just 48 per cent of it spent working productively

A survey of 1,000 adults who travel for work reveals that most of their time is spent idly, with only 48 per cent of it being used productively. Watching television in the hotel, reading a book, and playing video games are among the most popular activities to pass the time between meetings or work events.

The study was commissioned by Premier Inn, which has launched The Downtime Series to assist business travellers in maximising their time away. The series, presented by Angellica Bell, features interviews and advice from a sleep expert, the deputy fundraising director from Great Ormond Street Hospital children's charity, and business leaders who frequently travel for work.

"Despite the new locations and opportunities, the routine of time away from home which for many also means time alone - can quickly become monotonous. When you're constantly on the move, it's easy for the excitement of the journey to fade, leaving you feeling disconnected from your usual sources of enjoyment and inspiration."

A staggering 85 per cent have visited a completely new location for just one night, only seeing the route between their hotel and workplace. A significant 65 per cent wish they had more leisure time during their business travel to relax and explore.
