A former in-house attorney for Arxada LLC of Morristown claims she was fired after a miscarriage, according to a lawsuit

An attorney who worked for a chemicals company in Morristown has filed a discrimination lawsuit against her former employers, claiming she was fired for missing emails and after asking for time off to recover from her miscarriage.two weeks after her miscarriage and just days after she expressed interest in taking disability or medical leave “to heal from a traumatic, life-altering event.”

The lawsuit alleges the woman, who worked as in-house corporate counsel, was fired for “unresponsiveness” to emails that she could not immediately answer due to medical complications she was experiencing during her recovery. A spokesperson for Arxada LLC said Wednesday the company was “disheartened by the allegations” in the filed complaint, which are “contrary to our culture at Arxada.”

Two months later, genetic testing showed the woman’s unborn child had a rare condition known as Trisomy 13, which “poses an incredibly high risk of miscarriage due to heart problems and spinal cord abnormalities during fetal development,” the suit states. The suit says that upon informing her supervisor of the miscarriage, she was told to “please take as much time as you need.”
