Wests Tigers are parting company with general manager of football Kelly Egan in a further shake-up of their football department.
Just six months after Michael Maguire was appointed as the replacement coach for Ivan Cleary, there will be a further change in the brains trust of the football department with the departure of Egan. Long-time chair Marina Go also recently stepped down, her role filled by former NSW premier Barry O’ Farrell.Egan had previously worked with Des Hasler as an assistant at Canterbury and Manly, after a stint as the general manager of football at North Queensland.
He joined the Tigers when the club was in protracted and public negotiations with the so-called ‘Big Four’ of Aaron Woods, Mitchell Moses, James Tedesco and Luke Brooks, with only the latter staying put. The departure of the former Junior Kangaroos coach provides the joint-venture outfit an opportunity to take a different approach to retention and recruitment under Maguire.
The development comes just weeks after a series of mass sackings in the Canterbury football department. Team manager Andrew Farrar, general manager of football Gareth Holmes, recruitment boss Warren McDonnell and pathways performance manager Andrew Patmore were all big-name casualties in a restructure of the Bulldogs.
