1%, to close near 26,805, according to preliminary figures, unable to overcome a drag from a fall by shares of 3M Co. MMM, -4.07%, which fell more than 4%. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.19% rose around 6 points, or 0.2%, to end near 3,010, while the Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.81% advanced around 66 points, or 0.8%, to finish near 8,186.
