The deal to merge T-Mobile and Sprint promises to reshape the U.S. wireless market. Here’s how it will affect customers.

Deal comes with short-term pledge to keep prices low, but some customers face major changes to their service

In the global race for 5G, U.S. telecom firms have a unique disadvantage: limited access to the “goldilocks” band of radio frequencies. That's pushing U.S. firms toward a less practical version of 5G. WSJ explains the science and its implications. Illustration by Carlos Waters / The Wall Street Journal

Less choices, less competition.

TMobile Any plans to come India? You can merge with BSNLCorporate 😊

bysarahkrouse Reduction of jobs by eliminating redundant positions.

bysarahkrouse I had sprint for 15yrs. When I wanted off our family plan, not in my name, I was told I would not count as a new customer and still pay 2x as much as a new customer for the loyalty. I switched to Verizon.

bysarahkrouse It means when you get your bill 🤯yikes!

bysarahkrouse Yea because we don’t have enough monopolies in this country

bysarahkrouse Why, years ago, did the feds go to all the trouble to break up AT&T, only to years later allow cell phone providers to do exactly what AT&T was divided up for? Big government isn't our problem, big business is. The consumer is never the winner in these situations. Gimme a break

bysarahkrouse It only means that now Sprint, ATT and Verizon will all charge the SAME FUCKING OUTRAGEOUS PRICES FOR SERVICE AND PHONES!

bysarahkrouse The T-Mobile 55+ plan is already darned cheap; two unlimited lines for $70.

bysarahkrouse I thought tmobile was part of ATT?

bysarahkrouse It means you be charged more for spotty service than you were yesterday.

bysarahkrouse 📈

bysarahkrouse Maybe Competition...

bysarahkrouse That it’s going up

bysarahkrouse It means that I will never switch to Sprint. T-Mobile is a joke!

bysarahkrouse They never go down!!

bysarahkrouse Hope it means I’ll start getting phone calls at my house service has been terrible the past couple of months.

bysarahkrouse Lay offs.

bysarahkrouse Catastrophe... common smaller competitors with great service and plans.

I’ve been using Sprint for several years, as long as the service is not disturbed and the prices don’t get ridiculous I’ll be fine with everything! Just sitting back waiting for the results

Better service followed by higher prices. Article needed to be 6 words long.

It will lead to exodus of customers to cheaper alternatives.

Ha! The bill goes up!

Customers will pay more money for inferior service, endless hacking, scams, and overpriced cellphones. The telecoms will make billion$.

Good article addressing most of consumer concerns

Less choice. More cost. We've seen this before..

Can we get a pros and cons report that might help people make better decisions instead of one sided influence. HouseGOP

Extremely interesting! My carrier is Sprint so I'll be directly affected by this merger. Will my bills go up; will my service get better in spotty areas; will the SPRINT name-brand be no more?

It's in the cup, not the string

WSJ News Exclusive | Federal Judge Expected to Clear Way for T-Mobile and Sprint MergerA federal judge is expected to approve T-Mobile US’s merger with Sprint, according to people familiar with the matter, clearing the way for the two wireless rivals to combine and overcoming a state antitrust challenge. The states that claim to be protecting consumers from higher phone bills are the same ones who gladly take measures that result in higher energy bills. Higher prices ahead? Telecom cos shouldn't be merging or making money until they clean up their tech. I've never seen an industry that makes so much money selling crap. Hackable phones, dangerous apps, technology that works when it's close enough to a tower. What a racket.
