NET have said the £2 cap on bus fares is creating an 'uneven playing field' for them in Nottingham

The new Labour government says it will review the £2 cap on bus fares after Nottingham's tram operator criticised the scheme for creating an "uneven playing field." The programme, introduced to help bus companies recover from coronavirus, is currently due to run until the end of 2024.

Mr Lightwood told Nottinghamshire Live: "We want to make sure that public transport is better integrated and better connected and we'll be looking at the £2 bus fare now going forward, looking at the data that we've received from that to look at what the future of that is - whether a national scheme is the right way forward or whether a more targeted approach would be necessary."We're absolutely certainly not going to have a cliff edge of that funding.

Nottingham City Transport is a separate entity to Nottingham City Council, though the authority remains the bus operator's majority shareholder after it was effectively privatised in the 1980s. Speaking about NCT, Mr Lightwood said: "It's clear that they understand the needs of the community and that they're tailoring to that, and they're really connected and understand the place that they serve.
