The SA Revenue Service wants to hold Limpopo-based businessman and philanthropist Nyambeni Maphalaphathwa personally liable for a hefty R204 million tax debt accumulated by his company, Mjayeli Security.
The notice cites that the popular businessman was given an opportunity to make representations to the taxman on reasons that he should not be liable for the debt, as the claim was also directed at Mjayeli Security.“The submission provided by you, however, failed to satisfy Sars that you, while being regularly involved in the management of the financial affairs of the taxpayer did not act negligently or fraudulently with regard to the tax obligations of the company,” read the notice.
Sars spokesperson Siphithi Sibeko said they did not discuss private taxpayer information with third parties.
