When the state government announced its plan for transport-oriented development around key Metro and train stations last year, it came with a promise of up to 15 per cent affordable housing.
The unambitious minimum targets have angered community, housing and planning groups who hoped the TOD would bring an influx of affordable housing to well-connected areas for families and workers. Centre for Independent Studies data shows apartment sale prices are only 8 to 11 per cent above the cost of supply, compared to 40 to 60 per cent in parts of the eastern suburbs and north shore.
