Holidaymakers are expected to start streaming into the Eastern Cape from other provinces.

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport has urged road users and motorists in particular to continue to be extra vigilant as the volume of traffic on some of the province’s roads is expected to increase, starting this weekend. This as holidaymakers are expected to start streaming into the Eastern Cape from other provinces ahead of theProvincial Transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose says, “Eastern Cape Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha believes that the next two weekends leading up to Christmas, starting from this weekend will be very very defining to how the province is going to fare in terms of reducing the number of crashes and fatalities this festive season.

Last week, the Eastern Cape Liquor Board in partnership with the provincial Transport Department launched the Safer Festive Campaign in Gqeberha.Dozens of officers and their stakeholders were hard at work weeding out those who broke the law. This in an effort to ensure that road users remain safe during the festive season and limit the amount of road fatalities.
