A third of small businesses in Australia are led by women, with 46,000 women starting their own businesses in the past year alone, but now a new government initiative has been launched to ensure these businesses last the distance.

TAFE NSW have committed $7 million to the NSW government's Women in Business program which offers participants free training and advice with top business mentors.

Founder of Torstar and Powerful Steps Tory Archbold told Sky News the initiative allows millions of women to “tap into the hearts and minds” of the best people in practices across business including public relations and marketing. Starting a business, Ms Archbold said, “gives women the independence, and independence gives people freedom”. “Once you have freedom you have choice, and when you have choice you have the opportunity to help others”.

All new businesses or just women’s ? If the support is just for woman ask yourselves if this is acceptable ?

Look out... here’s another opportunity to rort. ScottyFromMarketing isn’t letting a single opportunity to fleece the taxpayers pass him by. auspol

How does that work? Direct subsidies? What a nonsense.

So that is discrimination by the government. There should be a court case

I have been told that the other two thirds of businesses have been run by ordinary two legged people . Amazing, or coincidental?

who's having the kids or do we just import the next generation?

That’s sexist. Not that I care; but that’s how it seems. Please educate me if I’ve got it wrong. P.S there’s no need to abuse me.

great news....I’d love to see the stats of women who run their own business and which side of the political divide they are...dare say those on the left would be very low
