Billionaire philanthropists Melinda Gates and MacKenzie Bezos are launching a $30 million contest for nonprofits confronting gender and racial inequality. Here's how to land some of the grant money.

Billionaire philanthropists and authors Melinda Gates and MacKenzie Bezos are doubling down on gender inequality in the US.

The two are teaming up to launch a national competition that will award a total of $30 million to nonprofits with the best ideas on how to tackle what's holding women back in their careers, at home, in tech, and beyond. There will be a special focus on how to elevate Black women and women of color.

Winners, who will split the $30 million, will be selected by a team of judges, including Gates and Bezos. Gates' investment and incubation firm,The competition is part of Gates' ongoing $1 billion commitment made in 2019 to elevate the status of women in the US. Gates, co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has previously devoted much time and effort to advancing
