Alphabet's Loon said its balloon-powered internet service will initially cover 50,000 square kilometers in western and central parts of Kenya.
It aims to take a fleet of 35 balloons to the skies above eastern Africa "in the coming weeks." The news represents a significant milestone after years of publicity about the Alphabet-owned venture.

Cool, now the Elephants can socialize with buddies in South Africa.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful. connectedworld
I want to know, how to steer that balloon. Pretty interesting technology, as it could be alternative to the satellite one, maybe?
What is there to stopping Google collecting Kenyan data and transmitting then back to the US via it's direct satellite links. It is also a great surveillance gear for the NSA. I think the Kenyans are making big grave mistakes in allowing the Americans so much freedom to roam.
And i bet no one can afford wifi devices to use it. Remonds me of enron trying to sell electricity in india when people were too poor to buy it
Meanwhile, in rural USA..
Great! Is this a free service?
Very cool, unluckily, there no such thing as a free meal. Beware of Alphate and the like.
Oddly 99 percent of the people of kenya wear a mask but americans fight about it?
