Instagram will from Friday ban any content promoting LGBT conversion therapy, the company told the BBC.
Conversion therapy is the name given to any practice which purports that people can be "cured" of their sexual orientation or gender identity. "We don't allow attacks against people based on sexual orientation or gender identity and are updating our policies to ban the promotion of conversion therapy services," Instagram's EMEA public policy director Tara Hopkins told theInstagram told the BBC that while the ban would come into effect on Friday, it will take time to update its policies and so some content flagged by users may not be immediately removed.
