Employers will gain easier access to the JobKeeper wage subsidy from the end of September in a $15 billion federal backflip to deal with the economic damage from sweeping Victorian shutdowns.

A crucial change also updates the pool of employees who can receive the payment by changing the "reference point" for their employment.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison will convene a national cabinet meeting with state and territory leaders on Friday with an agenda that covers freight issues, aged care policy, the Victorian outbreak, skills reforms and the federal review of hotel quarantine breaches. The rules announced on July 21 were especially strict for companies that wanted to receive JobKeeper from January through to March, requiring them to show a fall in turnover in the June, September and December quarters of this year.A government background document says the changes mean employers will only be assessed on actual turnover in the previous quarter before the next phase of the payment.

Labor treasury spokesman Jim Chalmers called on the government on Tuesday to reconsider its JobKeeper changes, saying the deterioration in Victoria meant workers would need more help.

political_alert A massive backflip from ScottMorrisonMP's LNP federal govt, after he was criticising COVID19au border restrictions, insisting on reopening the economy only weeks ago. So where's this sensationalist take from the media, to match the negative crap thrown at Labor govts?

Cant keep printing money forever. Just pay peoples rent, utilities, food, etc and provide them basic income. Let businesses fail if they run out of money. There is no point holding up these companies when there is literally no demand for their work for the next year.

Great, make it easier for employers to rort the system.

political_alert Are you sure its $15billion? Could be $60billion, then again it might be notional $0

What about childcare centres? Corrupt Dutton owns one. Why doesn't he ensure they are looked after.

What a house of cards and they're just trying to put out spot fires everywhere. Let them burn or fall. The economy is heading for a reset at they're throwing money at it willy nilly. Brrrrrrrr Bitcoin

political_alert It’s so people can pay rent and mortgages which decreases defaults and ...wait.... The Big Short 2
