SINGAPORE - Local testing and inspection company, Setsco Services, which ensures that stringent, high quality standards are upheld in a range of sectors like construction, manufacturing, as well as food and microbiology, has now pivoted to surgical mask testing amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
These included tests for the Bacterial Filtration Efficiency of the masks, using the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in the form of aerosol gel particles, filtered at a particle size of 3 microns. Other tests include measuring the fluid resistance of the mask against synthetic blood penetration, a differential pressure test which determines how easily a wearer can breathe through the mask, and the flammability test, for how quickly the material of the mask can burn and spread fire.So far, the company has tested masks for more than 20 clients, which comprise local suppliers, manufacturers and end-users.
Ms Choy Sauw Kook, director-general of Enterprise Singapore said that the four growth sectors in the TIC industry - the medical and life sciences sector, food and agriculture sector, digitalisation and cyber-security sector, as well as the environmental sustainability sector - are likely to grow even more in a post Covid-19 world.
