ICYMI: The USPS and UPS holiday surcharges will make buy online, pickup in-store services more important than ever over the holidays

in the wake of the crisis. Small businesses, which may lack funds to handle the increased costs, might have no choice but to raise their prices, possibly causing customers to spend less or turn to competing merchants with lower prices.

The surcharges will make buy online, pickup in-store services more important than ever over the holidays. BOPIS offerings like in-store and curbside pickup will enable merchants with stores to avoid delivery surcharges, while still getting products to consumers quickly. These omnichannel offerings should limit retailers' expenses over the holidays so they can maximize their profits and improve their overall performances in 2020 despite the pandemic.

Retailers should develop their pickup offerings and find ways to promote them to consumers to shift more volume away from costly ecommerce deliveries. Sellers can potentially convince consumers to pick up orders rather than order online by creating clear areas for consumers to visit or park — Walmart has used an in-store pickup

in some stores — to create an easy and attractive experience. Retailers should also consider offering one-time discounts on pickup orders to expose more consumers to BOPIS offerings and push them away from potentially costly ecommerce deliveries.Join other Insider Intelligence clients who receive this Briefing, along with other Payments & Commerce forecasts, briefings, charts, and research reports to their inboxes each day.

Perfect for that Covid spiking season coming during the fall/winter time. Thanks Conald and goons!

It’s such a trickle effect of people over buying online bc that’s the majority of what we can do and people starting their small businesses, therefore their online orders are backed the f up from their customers buying online 😐 good problem to have I guess but not sustainable
