Fox News won a court case by 'persuasively' arguing that no 'reasonable viewer' takes Tucker Carlson seriously

The case was brought by the former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who said Carlson defamed her on his show, "Tucker Carlson Tonight," by saying she extorted President Donald Trump "out of approximately $150,000 in exchange for her silence about an alleged affair" between them.

Carlson's claim that McDougal "approached Donald Trump and threatened to ruin his career and humiliate his family if he doesn't give them money." The judge agreed with Fox's premise, adding that the network "persuasively argues ... that given Mr. Carlson's reputation, any reasonable viewer 'arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism' about the statements he makes."

Carlson, meanwhile, has made several racist and controversial statements during his tenure as one of Fox News' biggest primetime stars.

No reasonable person would take anything seen in the media seriously

Lol look at all the morons who think this wasn't just a ploy to escape a lawsuit. They are like YA SEE EVEN HIS LAWYER THINKS HE IS FAKE. Lololol. Good, don't take him or his viewers seriously. Not like there is a major election coming up. 🤗

Shouldn’t he be fired then or is the network now just a PAC

Fox lawyers - TuckerCarlson has no obligation to tell the truth. Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil agreed, saying “Given Mr. Carlson’s reputation, any reasonable viewer ‘arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism.’' That's the problem. Do reasonable people watch FNC?

Ready for the triggered comments 😂😂😂

The Alex Jones defense.

gamma_male_

Most of the shows hosts on Fox News don’t even have a degree in journalism they just spread their venomous hate on tv.

IQ 138 here. I must be dumb to watch Tucker then. Donna Lemon apparently is smarter huh?

I like Tucker Carlson....almost the only person on Fox that I listen to

Guess I am not reasonable.

🤣🤣

this is what the communist democrats do they try and silence anyone who speaks out against them and make you think they are the enemies. tucker is the realest news scource out there he speaks out against the communist left

I’ve literally lost friends because they take him seriously - people who I once respected and now are fully in his web of deceit and in his cult.

At times he makes some good point when other times he sounds like Trump

TuckerCarlson Funny I thought everyone knew that now it’s official

Don’t mess with Tucker

Freemanhippy It is true that *rumpies are not rational or reasonable. Enough people to cause chaos to out Democracy.

Yes! All 4.75 million of us tune in nightly for pure entertainment. 🥳

Wasn’t that the same argument MSNBC attorneys used for Rachel Madcow?

This is great! Tucker is a dope.

Maga crowd to courts...

Glad the case was dismissed but I think Tucker is awesome

TheRealPBarry You can just picture the lawyers for Sky News After Dark taking notes. They could 'persuasively' argue that no 'reasonable viewer' takes any of their commentators seriously either ABCmediawatch

This is stupidity at its finest.

Hahaha

That’s complete Bs... way to spin the facts but what should we expect from a garbage news org like Business Insider....

Freemanhippy This 'judge' has zero idea how uneducated and ignorant the majority of 'Americans' are. I know MD's who believe Fox.

Nothing like saying the quiet part out loud!

lc1_summit Judge was FOX loyalists?

This sounds like a future political ad ProjectLincoln MeidasTouch RVAT2020 RepsForBiden

But does Fox News have any “reasonable viewers?”

TuckerCarlson Awesome! Maybe you should leave Fox for OANN!!!!!!!!!

backspring2011 Even Fox News admits their anchors are full of shit.

Well phonetically the disclaimer is Fox News (Fucks News)

Exactly! I do not care to watch TuckerCarlson as I consider him tabloid news. He does FOXTV a disservice for non creditability like the rest of foxnews. I would actually argue he probably helped cause deaths during COVID19 with misinformation he has put out numerous times

MatHelman Owwwwwwwwww. Self Burn Fox “News”.

They also won a case years ago, by arguing that as a news organization they are not legally obligated to tell the truth.

So even FoxNews admits they're FakeNews ? 😂

This feels like it was taken straight out of a scene in Network

Omg

TrumpVirus So FoxNews Just admitted they Condone Spouting Obsurbities because No Reasonable Viewer Takes Him seriously ....but that's the Point he relies on Trump Supporters who aren't Reasonable Viewers to Believe Him? Fox Suckers just admitted they Employ Fake News Advocates

😂

So they escape guilt for being known liars!

Yeah and cnn did the same wih maddow

We thank all you useful idiots 🇨🇳🐒💰 BeijingBiden

ArkansasBrett I thought you'd find this article interesting. You're a big Tucker fan, right?

LOL😂😂😂⚾️

The judge upheld the precedent set by Madcow.

Typical LeftistSmear

Fox lawyers is commentary. TuckerCarlson has no obligation to tell the truth. Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil agreed, saying “Given Mr. Carlson’s reputation, any reasonable viewer ‘arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism.’' That's the problem. Do reasonable people watch FNC?

Wow... so the judge is implying that all of the die hard MAGA crowd that believe what Carlson says is true are not “reasonable” viewers?

Same argument MSNBC made for Rachel Maddow

Does FOX have reasonable viewers?

cc TheRickWilson 😂.

Fake news. Not at all what their argument was. Here is the actual quote from the decision. “The motion argues that when read in context, Mr. Carlson’s statements “cannot reasonably be interpreted as facts” and that the Amended Complaint fails to allege actual malice.”

Amazing. No reasonable person should vote for Trump either.

FCC

Fox “performance” failing for investors too. FauxNews

Thus confirming the long held belief that the cable channels are not purveyors of 'news', but rather, entertainment.

DonCheadle danjlevy DanRather shaunking SarahKSilverman

Unfortunately the 4 million people who most need to know this will have absolutely no clue this court case even happened.

Thnx Faux

ArkansasBlog License to Shill

TuckerCarlson Obviously. Who in their right mind would listen to such a racist sycophant. He's an embarrassment. TrumpVirus firetuckercarlson

jbenton

if he's not there to be taken seriously, then I assume he's on Fox 'News' just to entertain and/or provoke - i.e. that's what Fox 'News' pays him for, that's his job description - well, at least now we know

Fake news

That explains why FoxNews lists Tuck under “Entertainment,” as they explained to the court. What? They don’t and didn’t?

I don't take any of the Cable news guys seriously.... To be honest... I don't even watch any cable news channels anymore other then CNBC and I don't any of those guys seriously either...

This is utter communism. Facebook is banning anyone who speaks out now. Conveniently for 30 days. I posted my conservative views on Dan Rather’s post and was summeraly dismissed. Until the election.

Same shit, just the pile is different.

Better than Don lemon surely

Ouch!!! Tucker Carlson should feel really hurt cos I would, if the company I worked for made such statement about me. His bosses considers him a joke & any self-respecting journalist worth is salt should be offended & tender his resignation after such statement.

visheshjain54

TuckerCarlson

Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil was appointed by trump 2 years ago. Tucker Carlson was going to win this regardless of defense

Unfollowed

'progressively' arguing

StvnNgm 😅😅😅

Approved by a court system that's not taken seriously by the victims of racism and police brutality.

Where is the banner stating that while he is on the air then?

Hahahahaha wow

No one takes seriously either, since it became 100% political

The president, for one, unfortunately takes him very seriously. And Fox knows. Complete moral bankruptcy.

So their argument is that Fox viewers are unreasonable?

Lol. Disturbing. Lol

The definition of fake news. The defense never made this claim. Instead it was the interpretation and ruling of the judge that made that conclusion even though defense never stated that. They were speaking only of that segment, not his show in general. 🖕 you fake news!

AmazingChevVolt 👏let👏that👏sink👏in👏

Who are you calling unreasonable? Pleeeeeease! Hahahahaha

Lol with lawyers like that who needs enemies

Hahahahaha liberals can’t even recognize sarcasm

ah so if you ignore white nationalists they

Bullshit.... my Mom and Dad are extremely reasonable folks and both in their 70’s. To them... Tucker might as well be Jesus Christ. They believe him over me .... their first born son.

Fox should only be able to win this case if they are forced to put a chyron announcing this on all TuckerCarlson shows

While this court case defense is hilarious... (it's true that most reasonable people think Tucker Carlson is a fool)... it's pathetic that Fox News was let off the hook and Tucker Carlson doesn't have to take responsibility for the garbage he spews.

This is bull shlit. It's Fox News, widely believed by a huge viewership. It ain't the god damn Comedy Network.

The irony...

You could make a similar argument about Business Insider.

This is one of the most slanderous headlines I’ve ever seen in my life. Hyperbolic statements (which he used here) aren’t meant to be taken seriously

His voice is too high pitched to be taken seriously. And he says 'interesting' too much.

They also won another one in the past when they were sued for saying that they are truthful by arguing that lying is not a crime

Lmao, his ratings speak louder than your drivel

Tucker is a Correspondent show not a news show. So is Rachel Maddow, Reliable Sources and many others. They are based on opinions

In the article he was “using hyperbole for effect.” So he was making a purposefully exaggerated statement Saying “I have a million things to do today.” You don’t literally have one million things to do, you were using hyperbole

sure .... Business Insider is radical leftist

Madness. Tucker should be pulled off the air.

Didn't Maddow do the same?

That's a genius defense.. which is very ironic.. 🤔

🤣😂
