Surfers on the NSW north coast found themselves with some majestic company today when a pair of whales sliced the waves alongside them.
A pod of dolphins was spotted hunting bait fish below the surfers at Lennox Head, just south of Byron Bay, when a pair of minke whales broke the surface.Surfers off the Byron Bay coast were surprised by a pair of minke whales."You never think of seeing something like that, so yeah, unbelievable," Mr Cook said.Experts labelled the whales' behaviour unusual.
"Although it's not rare for minkes to be feeding on bait balls of small fish like that, to surf into that bail ball is just amazing," Mr Phillips said.
