New York Sports Clubs and Lucille Roberts dealt restraining orders banning the gym chains from charging fees to select members

"This order stops New York Sports Clubs and Lucille Roberts dead in their tracks and halts these health clubs from continuing to unlawfully charge many of their members," James said in a press release.New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a press release on Monday that she has obtained a temporary restraining order to prevent New York Sports Clubs and Lucille Roberts from charging fees to some of the gyms' members.

The restraining order was put into effect on Friday and will last at least until a hearing on the case is held at the end of October. The court could also extend the restraining order. According to , the New York Attorney General's office has received about 1,848 consumer complaints about New York Sports Clubs and fellow Town Sports International subsidiary Lucille Roberts since March 16. About 437 of those complaints were received since September 1, according to the suit.
