COVID-19 punched a $17.8 million hole in the finances of the Sydney Theatre Company almost bringing the premiere performing arts company to its knees.

Eryn Jean Norvill in The Picture of Dorian Gray, has helped turn around the fortunes of the Sydney Theatre Company.The company’s financial statement, released on Thursday, showed the cancellation of seven of 12 productions in 2020 devastated box office revenues. Factoring in Jobkeeper, grants and $6 million from fundraising, the company reported a net deficit of $4 million.“It goes without saying that 2020 was a tough time for the arts sector, and added further risk and complication to a year that saw the completion of STC’s Wharf Renewal Project,” STC’s executive director Patrick McIntyre said.

LindaMorrissmh How do you lose money if your not staging the shows? I am confused. Aren't people on a contract per performance or something? This makes no sense. How many people do they need to pay to put on zero shows?

LindaMorrissmh Good thing it wasn't an essential service. Maybe the cast could get a productive job like a delivery driver and actually contribute something worthwhile.
