Tasmanian salmon giant Huon Aquaculture appears almost certain to become foreign controlled, after Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board green-lit a takeover plan from Brazilian meat-processor JBS.

Financial analyst Sam Baker said the FIRB's decision had been the "most significant hurdle" facing JBS in its push to take control of Huon Aquaculture. The Benders still hold about 12 per cent of the company."It now appears extremely likely that Huon Aquaculture will be taken over by JBS on Friday," Mr Baker said. While JBS would take control, with more than 50 per cent support, it would need 75 per cent support for its scheme of arrangement to pass.
