St. Augustine bakery aims to recreate favorites like grandma made

Growing up in New York, Bethany Mitidieri says she was surrounded by great bakers and outstanding neighborhood bakeries.

"I’ve done it on the side — I’ve made custom cakes for people just because it was another creative outlet than what my other career was," Mitidieri told the Business Journal. That would only make sense since she learned how to bake from grandmothers and other elders. Mitidieri has no formal training in culinary arts but just grew up with women who could bake.

Mitidieri also has her shop open just four days a week — Thursday through Sunday. It's what she can handle right now with help from her family and not have to hire staff. She's tried a few different avenues to draw awareness, including partnering with Michael Brooks and his popular County Road Provisions food truck to sell her kolaches.
