Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne accused Conservatives of conspiracy theories and responded to Masse that the way to bring costs down is through competition. “We’re always going to stand up for Canadians to make sure prices go down in this country,” he said. He pointed out Bains joined Rogers shortly after the Rogers-Shaw merger was finalized . The $26-billion mega merger saw Rogers buy Shaw’s internet and cable TV divisions, while its wireless division Freedom Mobile—the fourth wireless competitor in three provinces—went to Quebecor.

Williams responded: “If you believe that, then I actually have a Rogers cell phone plan to sell you.”
