Hydrogen Utopia International has received EU grant aid to develop a facility that turns plastic into hydrogen on the former Atlantic Mills lands

A green hydrogen business that aims to develop a site in Fisherstown, Co Longford, has received European Union support to further its research.

Hydrogen Utopia International , which uses waste plastic to develop hydrogen, has a lease on the former Atlantic Mills denim factory site, for which it hopes to receive planning permission to develop into a working facility. “We’re trying to build a first of a kind facility that turns plastic into hydrogen. We take waste plastic and convert it into gas, from which we extract the hydrogen. It’s a sophisticated and complex process that requires a lot of engineering,” Aleksandra Binkowska, chief executive and founder of HUI, told the Business Post.
