His hawker neighbour, who runs a porridge stall nearby, broke the news on social media.

The eatery, which has been operating for over three decades, is famous for its peppery bak kut teh with a dark-hued broth that customers enjoy as a hearty breakfast. Over the years, the family who runs Hua Xing also opened another stall specialising in Teochew-style steamed fish dishes right beside their bak kut teh joint.

He wrote: “Any fans of Hua Hing Bak Kut Teh @ Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre, Jurong East Blk 347? Got sad news…” Roy, who runs porridge stall Li Fang Zhou Pin in the same hawker centre, elaborated in his post’s comments section: “Owner of the stall had just passed on, going to the wake later.” The cause of the owner's passing was not disclosed.According to Roy, the owner, who is in his 40s and took over the business from his late father, had just opened an outlet last month at Taman Jurong Food Centre.

Netizens who saw Roy’s Facebook post expressed their dismay, with one user asking: “Oh dear… Will there be someone taking over the biz continuing their taste?”At press time, 8days.sg’s calls to Roy and Hua Xing Bak Kut Teh went unanswered.Hua Xing Bak Kut Teh is at #01-171 Yuhua Market & Food Centre, Blk 347 Jurong East Ave 1, S600347.
