The Oakland Ballers announced on Thursday that they are launching a community investment campaign, one that will offer fans both economic rights and decision-making power

The concept of community ownership is not new, employed by teams such as the Green Bay Packers, Real Madrid, Oakland Roots SC and Orange County SC. The B’s say their plan differs from other models. Some teams offer either economic rights or decision-making power, but the Ballers plan to offer both., have wanted to implement community ownership from the very beginning, but the team had to work through a variety of rules and regulations before launching the endeavor.

According to Freedman, Thursday will mark the beginning of a “testing-the-waters” phase. Fans can register, express their interest and say how much they might be interested in investing.
