The ANC has promised to start its local government clean up strategy with the City of Johannesburg Metro. Party President Cyril Ramaphosa has directed the party’s NEC Lekgotla and Gauteng provincial leadership to sort out the Johannesburg leadership saga and service delivery crisis.
Once revered as the African World Class City, ANC spokesperson Zuko Godlimpi says the focus is now on the local sphere of government which is seen as the coalface of service delivery. “Part of which the ANC is going to do now is to focus very seriously on the local sphere and work to stabilize at that level and he said we are starting in Johannesburg because we won’t sit by and watch what’s happening. We need to bring in other levels of the state and discuss specifics of the interventions beyond the leadership issue.
