The former teacher has written to bus companies to find a solution before South Lanarkshire Council makes its final decision.

Rutherglen MP Michael Shanks has written to seven Lanarkshire public bus companies to seek additional services for pupils affected by the council’s proposals to change free school transport provision.

The companies included First Bus, Stuarts Coaches, JMB Travel, Hobson Travel, McGills, ARG Travel and Whitelaws. “Children would use their Under 22 bus passes on these routes to travel to and from school, which would cover the cost to the bus company. Michael Shanks, a former school teacher himself, told Lanarkshire Live: “I fully support the parents and young people from my constituency who oppose these changes and have made my views known to the council.
