A Shell Gas Station at the intersection of South Fairfax Avenue, San Vicente Boulevard and West Olympic Boulevard in Los Angeles advertised all grades of gasoline above the $5 mark last month.
The commission concluded that a study should be conducted “to thoroughly quantify the possible causes discussed in this memo. The Energy Commission proposes to spend the next five months examining those causes and reporting back to the Governor.”and on Friday supported the planned deeper dive into the issue.
“This report provides further evidence of what market experts and government agencies have maintained for years: there are many factors that influence movement in the price of gasoline and diesel, but the primary driver is the dynamics of supply and demand of crude oil,” said Catherine Reheis-Boyd, president of the Western States Petroleum Assn.
The “residual” price impact ranging of between 17 cents and 34 cents per gallon has remained in the market, and might be explained in part by other refinery outages and crude prices, the report said., the cause of which is debatable. Assembly Republican leader Marie Waldron of Escondido put much of the blame for high gas prices on the Democratic majority in control of state government.

Paid $2.44 yesterday in Virginia. The tax schedule should be posted on every Cali pump with the sales tax in bold as applied on top as a tax on taxes. This is a highly regressive tax regime with rurals n suburbans punished most. Govt takes more than any participant per dollar.

The tax on gas from the state of California is outrageous. It’s an excise tax of .47 cents per gallon and a 2.25 sales tax on every gallon. In NJ our gas is $2.85 a gallon.

It's dangerous to let the State of California government near a gas pump. Paid $4 54 a gallon yesterday. $1.26 in taxes and surcharges. Tough regulations for good reasons cost more and there is no doubt corporate profiteering.
