A B.C.-based company has launched a program on Vancouver Island connecting those in the construction and manufacturing industries to prevent materials from ending up in landfills. The goal is simple: connect companies in the construction sector who have excess construction materials with other companies to exchange them, preventing the waste from ending up in landfills.

Yaron, who is the managing director of circular innovation at Light House, says BMEx already has the backing of the Regional District of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley Regional District, and the Capital Regional District.“One of the great things about BMEx is that it’s a networking opportunity. It’s a way to get companies that have never talked to each other in the past, connected and finding new partnerships,” said Yaron.

“There’s no reason why lumber, concrete, asphalt, all these materials, these valuable resources shouldn’t be recirculated in our economy,” said Yaron.
